Former student Almunthir Daqamah, 21, has been charged with attempted murder

A former student at the University of Surrey has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a member of staff who was shot with a crossbow on campus.

Almunthir Daqamah, 21, has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, two counts of possession of a bladed article and possession of Class B drugs.

Police said a campus safety officer in his 50s had been shot with the weapon at Manor Park Student Village in Guildford on Thursday. The victim remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Daqamah has been remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court in July.

Surrey Police said Daqamah was a Saudi national. This information has been released by the police consistent with national guidelines.
