A retrial jury has been discharged after it failed to reach verdicts over allegations that two brothers assaulted a police officer at Manchester Airport.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, had denied assaulting Greater Manchester PC Zachary Marsden at the car park pay station area of terminal two on 23 July 2024.

Police had approached the two brothers from Rochdale in the pay station after an incident at a coffee shop earlier, Liverpool Crown Court had heard.

The jury had been directed that it could reach a majority verdict, but jurors were discharged earlier after failing to do so after nearly 20 hours of deliberating.

The brothers told the court they had acted in lawful self-defence, or in defence of the other.

The case was adjourned until 29 May to give time to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether it wanted to seek a third trial.
