The first week of the 2026 Winter Olympics concludes with Ilia Malinin falling short of the podium.

Malinin tried his quad axel, but he pulled up short and stumbled on other jumps. Malinin finished the free skate with a score of 156.33, good for eighth place. Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov took home gold, with Japan's Yuma Kagiyama (silver) and Shun Sato (bronze) filling out the podium.

The U.S. women's ice hockey team took care of business against Italy, ramping up to a 6-0 lead by the end of the second period and taking its foot off the gas in the third. Team USA has outscored its opponents 21-1 so far in the Olympics and is moving on to the semifinals.
